Ubisoft is working on a VR game for the Assassin’s Creed IP. Assassin’s Creed Nexus will be based on the series’ previous approach to stealth and will feature the likes of Ezio, Kassandra, Connor, and Haytham Kenway. It will also include tropes from the series like pickpockets, picking locks, climbing structures, combat, and the leap of faith.
This information comes through a report by industry expert Tom Henderson for Exputer. Henderson’s sources have confirmed that the game will feature 16 separate missions, along with a tutorial to get you used to the controls and systems. However, being a VR title, there are some differences from standard Assassin’s Creed games.
“Players can choose to play in one of the two styles, or a combination of both, which is the norm for a VR title using the analog sticks to move or teleport,” the report reads. “Since stealth is one of the most important aspects of an Assassin’s Creed game, teleportation comes with a soundbar that lets you know if you are alerting nearby enemies. Basically, the further you teleport towards the enemy, the less sound there is. done.
“For example, teleporting 10 feet away from an enemy will create less sound than teleporting 10 feet away from them. So it’s usually ideal to teleport some distance away to avoid detection by sound, and then crouch towards enemies with their controllers.”
In terms of assassinations, you can eliminate most enemies with one swipe of your hidden blade while stealthed – you can press a button and flick your wrist to unsheathe it. If enemies are alert to your presence, melee combat will require you to land a few blows to take them down – or one to the head.
Lockpicking is a big feature of the game, with Henderson even saying it has been described as a minigame. The mechanic will allow you to access alternate routes and claim rewards as well. The leap of faith system is apparently a great addition. “Getting into a T pose and falling off a building into a pile of hay is apparently a really cool experience,” said Henderson.
