Cyberpunk Iron Guardian Mecha Made in Just 10 Days Released on

Most games take years to make, making developing them seem daunting. That’s why limited-time game jams are so useful. They force people to get something and practice their skills. Spelunky, Goat Simulator and Super Hot started out as game jam projects. Well, this cyberpunk mecha game, Iron Guardian, was made in just ten days, and it looks amazing.

Made by gypynkt during Game Creator’s game jam, the game focuses on exploration and puzzle solving rather than combat. In it, you play as a pilot repairing an abandoned mecha that you can use to traverse the neon cyberpunk environment.

Although the current game is only two to three hours long, the developer has plans to keep updating and improving it. The first things the developer wants to tackle are adding more SFX, story and puzzle design. Naturally, seeing big robots makes people want to blow things up, but the developer responded that the combat “will be more ‘The Last Guardian’ than straight action combat”.

The developer was very open on Twitter about how they managed to make such a beautiful game in just ten days. First, they worked 13 hours a day, but say it “definitely felt like twice as much.” Second, they bought assets that would be very timely to create, such as 3D models and animations. The concept, UI, mechanics and level design were all done by the developer.

If you’re looking to get into game development and you think this seems too out of your league, the developer said he only started getting into the hobby two years ago, without any coding knowledge at all, then go for it!

If you want to experience the game for yourself, you can download it from now.
