Manchester City want to sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba on a free transfer, he is interested

It’s transfer news that got the football world talking.

Premier League leaders Manchester City are believed to be interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba once his contract expires at Old Trafford in the summer – and there seem to be some serious legs in the story.

In addition to City’s interest, the French midfielder is ‘open’ to making the transfer, according to The Guardian, which suggests Pogba is interested in working with manager Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola, for his part, believes the 29-year-old former Juventus player could play a deeper role in midfield.

So they already made an offer? Well, the Manchester club, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Wednesday, cannot make an official approach to Pogba until the end of the season.

That said, City are willing to offer the World Cup winner a four-year contract at the Etihad, with the option to extend it for a further year.

In March, he caused controversy when he said the club’s season was “dead” after another frustrating, trophy-free campaign.

“You have to be honest, the last five seasons haven’t satisfied me – not really,” Pogba told Le Figaro. “This year is dead, we’re not going to win anything. Whether it’s Manchester United or another club, I want to win trophies.”

He has criticized his inconsistent role at the club, where he has played in various positions since his £93.2m transfer from Juventus in 2016.

“It’s simple with France: I play and play in my position; I know my role and I feel the confidence of the coach and the players,” he added.

“It’s normal to feel the difference at Manchester United because it’s hard to be consistent when you often change your position, or the team system, or your partners… do I really have a role? no answer.”

It was reported earlier this month that Pogba had left Manchester United’s WhatsApp group chat after receiving two contract offers from European giants Real Madrid and Juventus.

If Pogba moves to City this summer, he will join a few who have decided to make the short trip.

In recent times, Peter Schmeichel, Andy Cole and Carlos Tevez have made the trip from Old Trafford to Maine Road, or Etihad as it is now. And before that, Denis Law, Brian Kidd and Terry Cooke swapped the famous red for blue.
