Overwatch 2 Beta Streams Surpasses 1 Million Concurrent Viewers

Overwatch 2’s beta becomes the top streamed game on Twitch as fans seek out new gameplay and beta access through drops.

At long last, the overwatch 2 Beta is now in the hands of more players as Blizzard begins opening up access to PC players looking to test out overwatch 2 for themselves. The overwatch Beta Bash featured scrimmages, interviews with the developers, and entertaining streams from a large variety of streamers. The interest in the sequel and exhibition matches featuring Twitch’s most famous personalities led to record-breaking concurrent viewership.

The Official overwatch Twitter page posted a graphic towards the end of its overwatch 2 Beta Bash Twitch event showing that overwatch became the number one streamed game on Twitch with a peak viewership of 1.5 Million viewers. That was the most viewers the game had on Twitch at any point in the past not seen since the early days of the Overwatch League. Those numbers were helped by overwatch fans eager Twitch Drops and the opportunity to get into the Beta and test out the games new maps, reworked heroes like Orisa and Doomfist, and experience Overwatch 2’s signature hero Sojourn.

The day’s event featured Twitch Drops that gave players that watched 4 hours of overwatch 2 Beta streams a PC code that will give them access to the overwatch 2 Beta. The official overwatch Twitch Channel featured the overwatch Beta Bash, a set of scrimmage matches between various teams made of former and current overwatch professional players like xQc, SeaGull, Aspen, and Super as well as popular streamers like Pokimane, Emongg, Fareeha and others.

Fans had their free choice on whose gameplay they could watch once they had drops enabled and were streaming under the right game. Though this event featured the overwatch 2 Beta, streamers had to play in the overwatch category. Streamers like xQc and Pokimane co-streamed their matches in the overwatch Beta Bash and kept streaming for most of the day. xQc’s stream held the top spot in the overwatch category, steadily having more than 200,000 watchers at any time.

1.5 Million concurrent viewers for overwatch 2 shows that despite the many delays and internal turmoil at Blizzard, fans are very interested in the game. There have been reports of issues with Beta servers as fans that earned and redeemed their rewards tried to log in and play. Community Manager Andy “AndyB” Belford sat out a tweet assuring fans that server capacity was being expanded and addressed other issues players were having while attempting to get into the Beta. Despite some technical difficulties, fans are excited to see new content through Beta gameplay, and they are willing and able to stress the limits of the overwatch 2 Beta and provide Team 4 with valuable information and feedback leading up to the full release.
