Trevor Noah accuses Ron DeSantis of trying to ‘deceive’ Trump

Trevor Noah criticized Ron DeSantis for “trying to outdo Trump” in the 2024 presidential race when he took the stage at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night.

The Daily Show The presenter mocked Florida’s Republican governor for being “shy” about a possible race and touted a range of controversies, from the governor’s stance on Covid-19 mitigation to the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill that restricts the discussion of gender and sexual orientation in schools as part of his play for the White House.

To the laughter of the crowd, Noah also scoffed at Florida’s ban on dozens of math textbooks amid a Republican crackdown on the public education curriculum, claiming the governor’s goal is that “nobody knows how to count votes.”

“First you ban math books, then nobody knows how to count votes,” he said.

DeSantis is expected to join the 2024 presidential race, which could pit him against his former ally Donald Trump.

The jokes about their potential rivalry came as Noah took aim at lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle by hosting the first White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) dinner held since before the pandemic.

“There are a lot of big names here tonight. One of my favorites – Ron DeSantis is here,” he began.

“Oh man, I’m really surprised he found the time.

“You know he’s been so busy trying to outdo Trump in 2024. See you Ron. I see you player.

“Yes, I’ve seen what you’ve been doing, blaming Trump for the lockdowns, distancing yourself from the vaccines Trump created with his own hands.”

He then launched into a caricature of the former president taking credit for the Covid-19 vaccine, while the crowd laughed.

“No one knew how to make vaccines until I made them. Beautiful, beautiful vaccines. Nobody knew how, not even Fauci,” she said.

Returning to the Florida governor, Noah told the audience how he was being “shy” in not confirming whether or not he received a booster shot, in an attempt to not lose some right-wing voters.

DeSantis’s office previously said he received the single-dose vaccine from Johnson & Johnson in the spring of 2021, but declines to confirm whether he received a booster dose.

The CDC recommends that people get a booster starting two months after the J&J vaccine.

“But Ron, Ron is playing shy,” scoffed Mr. Noah.

“He won’t even tell people if he got backup.

“Or, as they say in Florida, don’t ask, don’t tell, am I right?” he joked at an apparent reference to the “Don’t Say Gay” bill that DeSantis signed into law in March, banning discussions of sexual orientation or gender identity in schools across the state.

Biden was seen laughing at this point as the camera panned around where he was sitting.

“I see you Ron,” Mr. Noah continued.

“What I like about Ron DeSantis is that Trump is the original Terminator, DeSantis is like the T-1000.

“You’re smarter than him, you’re smarter than him, you can go down ramps,” he joked, pointing to Trump’s infamous descent down a ramp at West Point in 2020.

Noah then mocked Trump’s “Big Lie” where he continues to falsely claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

He said DeSantis is “a step ahead,” mocking Florida’s rejection of dozens of math textbooks from the school curriculum, claiming they include what he describes as “prohibited topics,” such as critical racial theory (CRT) or learning. socioemotional. SEL).

“Because you see, Trump said he won the election, but everyone was able to look at the numbers and see that he was wrong,” he said.

“That’s why Ron DeSantis is one step ahead. First you ban math books, then nobody knows how to count votes. Boom, my man!”
